Genevieve Willson BarnhartGenevieve Willson Barnharts work is "uniformly small....Each piece is immediate, contained within the focus of her physical presence and concentration, revealing some of the interior of her life and beliefs. She says the figures are there only to provide a human scale, yet their spirituality is evident. She works primarily in bronze, honoring the mediums integrity...exploring its multiple personalities, from surfaces coarse to smooth, to finishes dull, highly polished and patina-ed. Spatially the work is never out of balance, but often teeters just this side of precarious. The faces of her figures possess a stylized simplicity, reflecting...medieval imagery (and) are usually upright, heads bent slightly forward as if in modest supplication. Uniformly (her) work exudes a gentle elegance and integration of message and form." Sandy Thompson, ARTWEEK, June 2003 Gen Barnhart, born in Hollister California, attended Dominican College in San Rafael, and graduate school at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, and San Jose State College.
