Topographies

of Torque & Tangent

Paintings by Victoria Wagner
April 23 - June 6, 2004

The Quicksilver Mine Co. in downtown Forestville presents a one-woman exhibition of recent paintings by West County artist Victoria Wagner beginning April 23rd. This show, "Topographies of Torque and Tangent," continues through June 6th. Wagner’s paintings are lush and dreamy. "The process of layering has become central to the look of my work," she says. "Some of my paintings have more than twenty layers of carefully applied paint."

Organic forms, referencing plants, animals, and the slow unfolding of patterns and colors in nature, embellish the rich surfaces of her work. Currently an instructor at the California College of Arts and Crafts, Wagner received her MFA from Mills College in 2001. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at the Olive Hyde Gallery, Fremont; Andrea Schwartz Gallery, San Francisco; and the Artful Eye in Calistoga. She maintains a studio in Occidental, Sonoma County.
