Inspired by penny arcades, mechanical toys, and carny hokum, Dismuke draws from the mechanical fortune tellers, side show geeks, and quack curative elixir sellers of the early 20th century to create a harmony of aged modernity that greets the 21st. In this Show, pieces range from colored schematic drawings to maquettes and kinetic sculptures. With the pull of a lever or string, a Poe sculpture characteristically tweets, whistles, tips, bobs, rocks, catches mice, or blows smoke rings!

Recent exhibitions include Lew Allen Contemporary in Santa Fe; the Gregory Lind Gallery, San Francisco; and solo exhibitions at the San Rafael Center for the Arts, and the Palo Alto Arts Center. His work is also in many public and private collections, including the Oakland Museum here in the Bay Area.
