THE BUG SHOW

Come get bitten by the Bugs!

September 22—October 29, 2006

Becoming Independent Artworks artists have learned more than anyone would ever want to know about creepy, crawly, gnarly, slithery, and gooey things that go bump in the day AND night in preparation for their upcoming exhibition, The Bug Show beginning September 22nd.

Caterpillar

For over 25 years, Becoming Independent has promoted community inclusion and participation for people with developmental disabilities living in the North Bay area. Encouraging and supporting the work of "outsider, intuitive, or self-taught artists," the Becoming Independent Artworks program includes a large studio and gallery space in downtown Santa Rosa, inspiring and supporting creative expression amongst developmentally disabled adults living outside the mainstream art community.

Ants

Featured in this provocative show are sculptures of small, large, and of course fabulously artistic interpretations of the insect world: drawings, paintings and photographs of all sorts of creatures who live and thrive in the grass, underneath rocks, and in the earth around us.

Spiders

Also included in The Bug Show is a very large and very creepy collaborative canvas, a myriad of strange and scary shapes painted and embellished by Becoming Independent artists and their equally inspired instructor; and a tangle of spider and caterpillar web wound around ladybugs, marching ants and strange creatures, completing this close-up view of the little seen insect world around us.
