Bakers Dozen 2011

Quicksilver Presents the Work
of 13 Bay Area Artists

January 22—February 27, 2011

The Quicksilver Mine Co. presents Bakers Dozen 2011, the gallery's annual group exhibition featuring the work of 13 northern California artists beginning January 21st. An artist reception will be held on Saturday, January 22nd from 4—6pm; Bakers Dozen 2011 continues through February 27th.

This year's show features artists working in a variety of media, offering the viewer a broad-based exploration of literary expression in both traditional and contemporary visual art.

Collaborative poetry and antique letterpress broadsides by printmaker Micah Schwaberow, poet Elizabeth Herron, and writer/letterpress artist Eric Johnson; altered books by Sally Seymour; and word-related drawings and paintings by Brian Howlett, Michael Coy, and Cecilia Hallinan are all included in this exhibition.

Also in the show are Lin Max's collaged Grey Matters, Brooke Holves poetic box constructions, and Jack Carter's irreverent artist books and drawings.

Loreen Barry's archetypal language and meticulous assemblage constructions, letterpress "word image" pictures by Laurie Szujewska of Ensatina Press, and poet Pat Nolan's block print broadsides round out this year's Bakers Dozen show.

New this year is a special literary event, Art Words, which will be held on Thursday, February 24th in the gallery. Artist Loreen Barry, art book-maker Jack Carter, author Elizabeth Herron, writer/artist Brian Howlett, Eric Johnson (owner of Iota Press in Sebastopol), and poet Pat Nolan will talk and read from their work beginning at 7pm.
